Passing By, site specific projection installation

Passing By is a projected screen installation using multiple layers of translucent voile fabric. Looped video footage, recorded at crosswalks in cities including Chicago and Washington, D.C., is projected through the fabric from both sides, creating overlapping images of people walking, appearing, and disappearing across the layered surfaces.

As viewers move around and through the installation, their bodies become part of the projection, creating the illusion of walking alongside—or passing through—the figures on screen. The translucency and layering reflect the fleeting nature of everyday encounters: the countless people we pass without knowing their identities, experiences, or stories. Passing By invites viewers to consider presence and invisibility, and how easily we move past one another without truly seeing who is there.
